Longtime Virginia Tech Assistant Bud Foster To Retire At The End Of Season

On Thursday, Virginia Tech announced that their defensive coordinator Bud Foster will retire from coaching at the end of the upcoming college football season. The school said in a news release that Foster, who is the longest-tenured assistant coach in the Football Bowl Subdivision, will transition to a new ambassador role with the school at the end of the season. Foster is in the last year of his contract, which is set to expire Dec. 31.

Foster said in a statement: “It’s been a great ride, and it’s not over yet. I’ve poured my heart and soul into this program for over three decades and that’s not going to change this year. I’m excited about this season and I can’t wait to get on the practice field Friday.”

The 60-year-old Foster has been an assistant coach with the Hokies since 1987. He was first hired by legendary Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer, then retained by Justin Fuente when the former Memphis coach took over in late 2015.
