o o o Players of all levels and ages who love ping pong/table tennis are welcome to play in our Gump Memorial Table Tennis Tournament. o 2018: 23 players of all levels and ages competed in the 2018 Gump Memorial Table Tennis Tournament. Gump Tournament 2018 Co-Directors were are Frank Kromkowski and John Louie. 2017: 22 players of all levels and ages competed in the 2017 Gump Memorial Table Tennis Tournament. 2017and Participants came from Missoula, Bozeman, Helena, Butte, Anaconda, Kalispell and Bismarck, North Dakota. 2016: 24 players played in 2016. 2015, 2014: 22 players played the years before (2015, 2014).

TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE and RULES for June 8, 2019:

Practice/warm-up begins at 7 am on Saturday, June 8
— And the facility is open for practice on Friday, June 1, 5-7pm — (Plymouth Church, 400 S. Oakes in Helena)

o Tournament matches begin on Saturday, June 8 starting at 8:00 am with Youth Singles and Beginner/Novice Division matches.

o At 9 am Men’s and Women’s Singles Division Selection will begin with all players participating in a Round Robin. Entries in the Men’s and Women’s Singles will be sorted by the Tournament Directors into separate Men’s and Women’s A, B, and C D divisions. Placement in the Men’s and Women’s A, B, and C Divisions will be determined by the results of double-elimination (out after two losses) round-robin play to start the tournament. Round Robin matches in this initial section of the tournament are best of three (i.e., first player to win two games is the winner of the match.).

o Men’s and Women’s A, B, and C Division matches will begin after the round-robins are completed.
o Doubles: Doubles Division play will begin when the singles tournaments are completed – or earlier if tables are available.

o o o COST:

• FREE for Youth (18 and under) and Beginners/Novices (all ages).

• $10 entry fee (cash only) for all others.

• Men and Women in the Singles Divisions and Men’s and Women’s Doubles Divisions need to pay a $10 entry fee. This $10 covers all events that you wish to enter.

o TOURNAMENT DETAILS AND REGISTRATION PROCESS:

o o o REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Tuesday, June 3, 2019

Men’s and Women’s A, B, and C Division matches:
o To maximize the number of possible matches you can play, all Divisions will use a Round Robin format — everyone plays everyone.
o NOTE: This could be changed from a Round Robin format to a seeded bracket DOUBLE-elimination tournament DEPENDING ON WHETHER A VERY LARGE NUMBER OF PLAYERS ARE REGISTERED.
o Four tables will be available for the tournament.
o Three-star 40mm competition balls will be used.
o Referees (from among the tournament players) will be provided
for all matches.
o USA Table Tennis (USATT) rules will apply: http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Table-Tennis, http://www.usatt.net/rules/index.shtml
o Games are to 11 points, winning by 2 points
o 2 serves, alternating between players. 1 serve alternating at deuce.
o When serving, ball must be in an open hand, thrown straight up six inches, from behind the table end line.
o Matches are best of five: First player to win three games is the winner of the match.
o Rackets/paddles of any kind are allowed: Sponge paddles, hardbat, etc.
o Referees’ decisions are final concerning disputed plays.
o Referees may consult with the Gump Tournament Directors for clarification of rules.
