A Night Under the Stars brought to you by Dancing Through the Storm, brings together Montana teens and young adults (age 15-23) with chronic illnesses.
Since Montana didn’t have a children’s hospital, ( although we just got one! Shout out to Kalispell), I want to throw an event to bring the chronically ill teen and young adult community together. I thought a lot about what I wanted this event to look like and am modeling it after Duke Children’s Hospital prom. Duke was one of the first to start this event, but since then it has grown throughout the U.S. to places like Colorado Children’s Hospital, Sacred Heart in Spokane and a number of places in California.
I think prom is a perfect way to bring the young chronically ill community together for a night but also a way to forget about being sick for a night. It will be a night where people can wear their medical devices like badges of honor instead of trying to hide them, make new friends, and not feel alone. As prom is such a monumental event in teenage life, no one should have to miss it. I know I only got to go to prom once and I had many friends who went but had bad experiences since they missed so much school.
The event will be a dressy occasion jam packed with great music, a photo booth, dessert, and NON alcoholic beverages!
There will also be adult chaperones on site to help.
RSVP: dancingthroughthestorm406@gmail.com tickets FREE but donations are welcome!
